Weekly Rewind: Tight at the top

Few points separate the top three teams in both the Men’s and Women’s Divisions after Matchweek Seven.

Seventh heaven

Although they remain several points away from first place, St Albert Impact stole some headlines on Friday beating Callies United 7-0.

Noah Lechelt was on fire, scoring four goals to take his season tally to 10. An Antony Caceres goal and own goals from Tavin Williams and Michael Ogubunni made it seven.

The Blizzard defeated the Foothills 2-1 in an all-Calgary affair to remain unbeaten at the summit. Marco Plenzik put the visitors 1-0 up with a first-half penalty, before Robert Woodruff-Brown equalized with just over half an hour to play. Seven minutes later, though, Efe Udolu-Joshua scored his fifth of the year to secure the points.

Calgary Foothills then bounced back and won 6-0 on Tuesday, with six different scorers finding the net against Calgary Villains. The win put the Foothills within four points of the leaders but with two more matches played.

Edmonton BTB also enjoyed victory away from home, beating Calgary Rangers 3-2. It was the hosts who took the lead through Miguel da Rocha Figueira, but Jack Ferraro’s two penalties and Zidane Mwinyi’s goal put them two up before the break. Da Rocha Figueira secured his brace with a late penalty, but it was not enough to salvage a draw.

To tie up Friday’s action, there was more Edmonton success when the Scottish beat Cavalry U21 2-0. The two sides remain side-by-side in the standings, but the hosts’ second win of 2025 gives them a chance to build momentum and climb up the table.

Bringing three points home

It was a day of away wins in the Women’s Division on Friday, as the battle between the top three continued in another week.

Calgary Blizzard enjoyed a derby day win, beating the Foothills 1-0 at the Macron Performance Centre. The game remained level throughout until Alyssa D’Agnone made it 1-0 in the 70th minute.

The Blizzard win became all the more important on Tuesday, when the Foothills leapfrogged them to the top of the standings with a 1-0 win against the Villains. Brooklyn Blake’s goal 15 minutes from time gave the Foothills a two-point lead in the table.

Impact made it four wins in a row with a 3-1 victory at Callies United. With spare games on those ahead of them, Eden Bretzer, Sariyah Bailey, and Janai Martens piled the pressure on at the top and put their side in a very interesting position. For Callies, they sit in fourth place after an inconsistent start.

Finally, Edmonton BTB secured their second win of the season with a 2-0 win against Calgary Rangers. The hosts had struggled at the beginning of 2025, but a brace from Makenna Van Der Veen took her side onto six points.
