Weekly Rewind: Maximum points for Foothills

Calgary Foothills secured three victories in Matchweek Four of League1 Alberta, moving them up to second in both divisional standings.

Opportunities taken

Edmonton BTB made the most of Calgary Blizzard’s week off when they beat Cavalry U21 2-1 at home, and they have moved three points clear of the Blizzard with an extra game played. Jack Ferraro opened the scoring in the first half, and Chanan Chanda thought he had rescued a point until Frankroy Cain scored the winner a minute from time.

Elsewhere, there was a big 5-2 win on the road for Calgary Foothills. It was the hosts Edmonton Scottish who took the lead through Philip Masri, but Charles Nana, Diego Reveco, Jamie Nicholson, and a Robert Woodruff-Brown brace recorded five goals in 11 minutes for the visitors. Rilind Idrizi’s 36th-minute penalty wound up as a consolation for the Scottish.

The Foothills then moved up to second in the standings with their 1-0 away win against Cavalry U21 last night; Charles Nana bagging his second goal of the matchweek to secure another three points.

Calgary Rangers also enjoyed a win on the road when they beat Callies United 3-1 on Friday. Miguel Da Rocha Figueira’s brace and Abel Nesibu’s goal proved too much for Callies and Martin Carl’s second-half finish.

Also in the Men’s Division, St Albert Impact won 4-1 at home against Calgary Villains to claim their first victory of 2025. A Noah Lechelt brace, and goals from Andrii Khymchuk and Peter Jones ensured the Villains stayed at the foot of the standings.

Important points

There were some big results in the three Women’s Division matches in Matchweek Four.

Calgary Foothills took all three points from their 4-0 away win at Edmonton Scottish. A brace from Jayden Berg, plus goals from Reese Kincaid and Ashlynn Walia moved the visitors to within one point of current table-toppers Calgary Blizzard.

Meanwhile, Callies United enjoyed a 2-1 home win over bottom side Calgary Rangers. A four-minute Ally Tannas brace in the second half nullified Catriona McFadden’s goal for the Rangers. The hosts have moved into fourth place, while the Rangers remain without a point.

St Albert Impact made it two wins from two after their 3-1 win against Calgary Villains. Laura Lonsberry’s early opener was quickly cancelled out by Cheyenne Lehmann, but Sariyah Bailey and Jamie Erickson ensured the hosts took maximum points and moved into third.
