Weekly Rewind: Calgary Blizzard claim both titles
The men’s and women’s titles are both heading to Calgary after the Blizzard sides secured their titles on the final weekend.

Two on the bounce
Calgary Blizzard’s women successfully defended their title on Friday night with a 2-1 victory at Calgary Villains. Bryn Mortensen scored twice for the visitors, and they survived a late scare after Ayanna Reid Garvey’s goal.
Finishing two points ahead of Calgary Foothills, it has been another summer to remember for the Blizzard whose attention now turns to the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship taking place in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
St Albert Impact also ended the year on a high when they comfortably beat Callies United 9-1. Adalyn Fairweather scored a hat-trick, Sophie Lavallee and Kendra Fuller both added braces, and Ojong Tabot and Morganne Inglis also found the net to finish the year in relentless fashion and just four points from the top of the standings.
Winning in style
The Blizzard men’s team also made it a weekend to remember with a 4-1 win at the Villains, before beating St Albert Impact 5-3 in a winner-takes-all title match two days later. Moe El Gandour scored four over the weekend as his side secured the title after finishing third last year.
Even though the Impact finished five points away from first place in the end, their Friday night match had ensured the title battle would go right to the wire. A 4-0 home win against Callies United saw Noah Lechelt finish the season with more goals, taking his tally to 18, while Egzon Jetishi and Jacob Kwizera also scored.
Edmonton Scottish won on the road, beating Cavalry U21s 2-1 at Setters Place. Habib Assem and Daniel Topczewski scored for the visitors who finished fifth in the standings.
There is just one game left in the Men’s Division, with Cavalry U21s taking on Calgary Villains on Friday, August 8.
