Weekly Preview: The start of the run-in
Several midweek games have had big impacts on the Men’s and Women’s Divisions as we enter the final few weeks of the regular season.

Carrying momentum through
Calgary Foothills remain at the summit of the Women’s Division following a 3-0 win against Calgary Villains on Tuesday. Avril Jamieson, Grace Hannaford, and Emma Schneider secured the victory for the league leaders, and they could make it six points this week when they host Edmonton Scottish on Friday.
The Scottish were also in action in midweek and tied 1-1 at home to BTB in an all-Edmonton clash. Samantha Bouchard opened the scoring for the visitors before Ava Tingstad equalized early in the second half. BTB are back in action on Friday as they look to claim their fourth win of the season at home to Calgary Villains.
Elsewhere, St Albert Impact continue their hunt for the title when they travel to Calgary Rangers. They currently sit three points away from the top but with a game in hand. A win is the only goal here for the Impact against a side who have struggled so far this season, but the Rangers have won two of their last four, though, so this won’t be an easy game.
Concluding Friday’s matches in the Women’s Division, Calgary Blizzard are also looking to put the pressure on at the summit when they host Callies United. The Blizzard are just one point behind the Impact, and four away from first place, so victory is the crucial aim again as the end of the season approaches.
Level on points
There was also an important evening of action on Tuesday in the Men’s Division, as Calgary Foothills and Edmonton BTB now head into Friday with 22 points each. The former beat Calgary Villains 4-0 in midweek and host Edmonton Scottish this weekend. With an extra game played ahead of BTB in second, three points is vital in this fixture.
BTB continued to apply the pressure at the top on Tuesday with a 2-1 win at the Scottish. Tao Hein scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season to give his side maximum points, and the aim stays the same when they host Calgary Villains on Friday. The Villains have lost every game this year, but will be looking to cause an upset.
The third and final game in midweek saw Calgary Blizzard and Cavalry U21 tie 1-1, with Marco Plenzik equalizing for Cavalry after Xander McIntyre’s opener. The Blizzard host Callies United on Friday and will be looking to move level on points with the top two. They are only three points away with three games in hand, so the chase is on.
Tuesday matches
There’s also a trio of matches on Tuesday in both divisions, and a chance for chasing teams to gain ground on the league leaders Calgary Foothills.
BTB host St Albert Impact, Callies United welcome Calgary Blizzard, and there’s a battle between the 2025 expansion teams as the Villains visit the Rangers. With double points on offer for these teams this matchweek, it’s going to be another big few days in the League1 Alberta title races.
