Weekly Preview: Table-topping clash in Calgary
The top two in the Women’s Division face off this weekend in a game that could be crucial for the title race, as Matchweek Seven arrives.

An all-Calgary clash at the summit
It is an important matchweek as far as the title race is concerned in the Women’s Division, as Calgary Foothills host Calgary Blizzard. The former currently hold top spot with 12 points, but they can be leapfrogged this weekend if the Blizzard claim the win.
Behind them, and with two games in hand, are St Albert Impact. They are on the road against Callies United this weekend and could take advantage of any slip-ups in the derby above them. Their opponents are currently fourth on seven points but have played five games.
Calgary Rangers are the home side for their game against bottom-side Edmonton BTB. The hosts sit sixth at this stage with six points, but have played seven games, more than any other team in the division. For BTB, they are still waiting for their first win since the opening weekend.
The Tuesday-night game sees the Foothills visit Calgary Villains. The double matchweek for the former means they could significantly increase the gap between them and the rest of the table.
All to play for
It’s also going to be an intriguing title race in the Men’s Division with multiple teams playing a different number of matches at this stage.
Calgary Rangers currently sit top of the standings on 13 points, but have played two more games than second-placed Calgary Blizzard. The Rangers host Edmonton BTB on Friday, a side that held top spot for most of the season until now, so this should be an interesting match-up.
For the Blizzard, they can put themselves into a position to take advantage of their spare matches with a win against Calgary Foothills. In this all-Calgary affair, the Foothills will be aiming for a surprise result, as they currently sit in seventh without a win in any of their last three matches.
The Foothills’ Tuesday-night game against the Villains means they will take on the second and bottom-placed teams in the same week.
Elsewhere, Callies United could push into the top-three with a win in their game against St Albert Impact. The former are the home side and are currently fourth with three wins from five. Behind them, their opponents have two wins and can leapfrog Callies with a good result.
Edmonton Scottish host Cavalry U21 as they aim to move away from second-bottom and into a more comfortable mid-table position. Three sides above them sit on seven points, one being their opponents, so a win this weekend could help the reigning champions get back on track.
