Weekend Preview: Battling for position
As Matchweek Five approaches, the top two in the Men’s Division face off in a game that could hugely impact the title race.

A top-of-the-standings showdown
Another round of League1 Alberta action gets underway this Friday, and Calgary Foothills’ Men’s Division match against Edmonton BTB is set to be the pick of the bunch, with the sides sitting first and second in the standings. BTB currently sit one point ahead, and travelling to their nearest title challengers will be no easy task.
Behind them, in third and fourth and with games in hand, are Calgary Blizzard and Calgary Rangers, who face off at 8pm. This all-Calgary affair is set to be an exciting one, as both have an opportunity to join the race with the top two.
Elsewhere, Cavalry U21s will host St Albert Impact. The two sides have identical records in 2025 so far, both with a win and two losses, and either team could create a three-point lead over their opponent.
To conclude a night of Men’s Division games, there is a matchup involving the two sides sitting at the foot of the table. Edmonton Scottish host Calgary Villains and they are both looking for their first win of 2025.
Opportunities at the top
Both the Blizzard and Foothills can move clear at the top of the Women’s Division on Friday, as St Albert Impact and Callies United are on a bye week.
The Blizzard host Calgary Rangers at 5:30pm, in a bid to hand their opponents their fourth defeat of the season and increase the distance between themselves and those behind them. They currently sit on seven points, unbeaten with two wins and a tie. With third and fourth not playing, it represents a perfect chance to cement their place as leaders.
For second-place Foothills, they would guarantee remaining hot on the heels of the Blizzard with a home win against Edmonton BTB. The home side sit just one point off the top, so they can increase the pressure at the summit with a good result here.
Calgary Villains are on the road to face Edmonton Scottish and will try to bring back that winning feeling that they felt in Matchweek One. With three defeats in a row, they will want to achieve maximum points against a side who have had a mixed start to life so far this season.
Tuesday action
The Rangers and the Foothills are this matchweek’s Tuesday-night game. If Foothills can pick up maximum points from their two games in both divisions, they will be in pole position for the two titles heading into the last day of May.
With two victories this week, the Rangers’ men could also move up from fourth and go top of the standings, proving how tight things are in the division at this early stage.
