Rangers at the ready

As one of League1 Alberta’s newest teams, Calgary Rangers are out to inspire their community in their inaugural Pro-Am season.

Calgary Rangers were founded in 2001 and provide soccer opportunities to a range of age groups, but this spring they are taking things to the next level.

The club joined League1 Alberta in the offseason and are the visiting team in the opening match of the 2025 campaign, taking on BTB Edmonton on Friday, April 18 at Jasper Place Bowl.

As a result of joining the Pro-Am level for the first time, the Rangers have had to appoint coaching staff for their League1 program. Rory Keys will manage the men’s team, while Will Feria takes charge of the women’s team.

Both Keys and Feria have experience coaching Rangers’ youth squads, as well as for the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy at their Calgary base. The duo, along with several players graduating from the Rangers’ age-group sides, will be carrying the club’s ethos into the new season.

“We want a team that inspires the community and brings a unique culture to our club,” said Ashley Gooch, Executive Technical Director at the Rangers, who is pictured above.

“Our goal for the 2025 League1 season is to cultivate strong teams that represent the Rangers community, bringing together past and present players who represent our values.

“We aim to compete at the highest level, matching any team in the league and demonstrating our club’s drive, determination, and commitment to development.

“Fans should come out and support our team because we’re building a squad that represents the heart and soul of the Rangers community. Your support helps fuel the team and shows the soccer world what it means to be a Ranger.

“With a mix of passionate players, including Rangers alumni and rising stars, we’re committed to playing with pride, determination, and a relentless drive for success.”

It’s not just the players who will have a big impact on matchdays. Club volunteers Iain Sneddon and Martin Modjo Kamneng will be overseeing the Rangers fan experience and have plans to create unforgettable home games.

The Rangers will host their first League1 BC match at the end of May with Calgary Foothills as the visitors. Follow Calgary Rangers on social media for more club content
