Former League1 Alberta Goalkeeper launches Foundation ‘Holliday Play’
One of the biggest projects so far for Holliday Play has been the construction of a school in Uganda, Africa.

At Alberta Soccer, we love to celebrate initiatives that bring happiness and opportunities to those less fortunate. That is why we are proud of one of our friends of the house, Cavalry FC goalkeeper Joseph Holliday. Earlier this year, Joseph started Holliday Play, a foundation driven to positively impact lives across the world. Using his platform as a professional player, and a network of amazing athletes and human beings, Joseph intends to make a difference for those in need.
With projects completed entirely out of pocket, Joseph aims to open for donations later this year or early next year to be able to bring initiatives to life that support families and communities in need. In summary, Holliday Play was born with the seemingly simple goal of making a better world for one human being at a time, no matter what this may look like.
When asked why he decided to start his foundation, Holliday replied, “I decided to create my own foundation because my driving force in life, whether that be on or off the field, with friends, with family, and or any other endeavours in my life – is to always be a force of positive influence and impact. I wanted to establish a structured approach to fulfilling my dreams of being able to support others across the world that are in need of such and deserve so much more than they are given or dealt with. I want to spark positive movements towards a more inspired and driven community of individuals coming together to help others, however this may look. That is why I started the foundation, and why I continue to work towards this vision!”
One of the biggest projects so far for Holliday Play has been the construction of a school in Uganda, Africa. On how this idea came to fruition, Holliday says, “I was speaking with a Ugandan tour guide, Joshua Sunge, whom I was put in touch with by my sister. I mentioned the initiatives that I had previously hosted in Zimbabwe under my foundation, which sparked the conversations and planning to pursue initiatives in Uganda.”
The response was remarkable. According to Joseph, “I received many voice messages, videos, and photos, all highlighting the joy that came from the school that was built for them. The teachers were very grateful and as motivated as ever to work to teach the students, whilst the students were truly inspired to go to school and continue their education. Overall, I have received bountiful amounts of appreciation and pure emotions towards this initiative, which in turn has only inspired me to do more for them and other communities – I have never felt such joy as I have when seeing the kids smiling and sharing the enjoyment of their new school.”
When asked about the future, Joseph Holliday is optimistic. “The future of Holliday Play is extremely exciting”, says the Cavalry FC goalkeeper. “I am currently working on one last project before I officially declare that the foundation is open to donations. This project will be a community-driven initiative, and I plan to visit Africa myself for it – whilst also visiting the communities that I have already had the honour of being able to support. I thank everyone who has helped me get to where I am today. I will continue to do my best for you, as well as for all of those around the world that the Holliday Play foundation can support.”
