Calgary Blizzard drawn against CF Montréal in 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship

Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club learned their opponent in the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship on Saturday, Jan. 17, after Canada Soccer conducted the official draw at the OneSoccer studio.
The League1 Alberta champions were drawn against Major League Soccer side CF Montréal in a preliminary-round matchup scheduled to be played between May 5 and May 10.
For Sporting Director Diogo Raposo, qualification represents a significant milestone for the club and a reflection of sustained growth across its program.
“Qualifying for the TELUS Canadian Championship is a significant milestone for our club and a reflection of the growth we’ve experienced over the past five to six years,” said Raposo. “It validates the pathway we’ve worked hard to build, from youth development through to senior football.”
Raposo emphasized that the opportunity extends beyond participation, with the competition serving as a meaningful benchmark for both players and staff.
“We’ll approach it head-on with belief and ambition,” he said. “There’s no point qualifying just to participate — we want to compete and get a result.”
From a sporting perspective, the TELUS Canadian Championship offers Calgary Blizzard a chance to test themselves against elite domestic standards and measure progress within their development model.
“What excites us most is seeing our players tested at the highest domestic level against top professionals,” Raposo said. “These moments accelerate development.”
Raposo also pointed to the broader significance of the club’s participation, highlighting the role League1 Canada plays within the national soccer landscape.
“Our participation highlights how much League1 Canada has grown as a competitive environment and a true bridge between youth, university and professional football,” he said. “This tournament showcases the quality, ambition and professionalism that exists within the league.”
As preparations begin, Raposo underscored the pride of representing Calgary Blizzard’s supporters and community on a national stage.
“This club is built on developing young players and helping them transition into university and professional environments,” he said. “We’re proud to represent our supporters and community on this stage.”
Additional match details will be confirmed in the coming months.
