Blizzard back for Moore

Grace Moore could be a star in the making as Calgary Blizzard go for back-to-back Women’s Division titles.

Calgary Blizzard are going into the new season as the undisputed champions of League1 Alberta women’s competitions.

They were crowned winners of the 2023 Exhibition Series after securing a shootout victory in the playoff final, before topping the regular-season standings in 2024 to claim the Women’s Division title.

Grace Moore was coming through the first-team ranks last year, but after 12 goals in 14 matches for the University of Calgary in the 2024/25 Canada West season, she could be the one to step up and lead the Blizzard to back-to-back silverware.

In the men’s team, who finished third in 2024, new signing Owen Antoniuk could have a big say in whether they go even higher this campaign. After 10 goals in 10 games for Calgary Foothills in L1AB last year, and a short-term contract with professional team Cavalry, he is certainly one to watch.

“Our players are homegrown and represent what it means to be Calgary Blizzard,” said Diogo Raposo, Calgary Blizzard’s Sporting Director.

“We want to provide a positive sports environment with a development plan for our men’s and women’s programs, and progress athletes into professional environments.”

Away from the touchline, Jackie Martin is the club’s Executive Director and Game Day Manager who keeps everything running smoothly. She’ll be playing her part to provide a memorable experience for fans while the players show their talents on the field.
