Weekly Rewind: Five-star performances
Two thrilling victories for Calgary Blizzard moved them closer to the Men’s Division’s leading duo, and with three games in hand, are they the new title favourites?

A game of two different halves
There were plenty of high-scoring games across Friday, but the pick of the bunch was Calgary Blizzard’s 5-4 win over Callies United in the Men’s Division. Marko Plenzik fired the home side into a 2-0 lead within three minutes and completed his hat-trick after 21 minutes, either side of Moe El Gandour’s brace. The visitors got four goals back before the break but could not complete their recovery in the second half.
The action continued on Tuesday night when Calgary Blizzard closed the gap on the two teams ahead of them. A 3-1 win at Callies, which saw a Marco Plensik brace just days after his hat-trick, meant the Blizzard are just three points from top with three games in hand. Are they the new title favourites?
Edmonton BTB were another side to win with five goals scored on Friday. They defeated Calgary Villains 5-1 at Jasper Place Bowl, with Tao Hein relentless in front of goal again, scoring four to move onto 11 for the season.
On Tuesday, Tao Hein picked up where he left off on Friday with another goal, while Joshué Ndakala scored a brace to secure a 3-0 win against St Albert Impact. The win gave BTB breathing space at the top, and put a dent in the Impact’s title ambitions.
But the Impact didn’t come away from the matchweek with nothing, after a 2-0 win at Calgary Rangers on Friday. Rodane Cato opened the scoring in the 26th minute, Andrii Khymchuk had the chance to double it but missed from the penalty spot, then Noah Lechelt did make it 2-0 on 32 minutes.
With just one game this week, Calgary Foothills ensured they did everything they could to make their mark in the standings with a 5-0 home win against Edmonton Scottish on Friday. Evan Cunningham scored his first two goals of the season from the bench as the Foothills moved onto 25 points and stay second.
There was entertainment in Calgary as the Rangers defeated the Villains 3-2 in an entertaining game on Tuesday. Jordy fired the hosts into the lead within a minute, before Hyunshoo Ryu doubled their advantage from the spot. Massi Djabalii’s penalty and Shadrach Boakye got two back for the Villains, but a Deogratius Jerome own goal put them behind again 11 minutes from full time.
Relentless league leaders
Calgary Foothills continued their scoring form at the top of the Women’s Division by beating Edmonton Scottish 7-0 at home on Friday. Kendall Showers scored four of the goals as the Foothills did everything they could to stay at the summit.
But title-chasers Calgary Blizzard had a perfect matchweek themselves. A 2-1 win against Callies United – Erica Mysko and Sarah Donick scored for the hosts – picked up three points on Friday night.
They followed it up with a 4-1 on-the-road victory against Callies. Rowyn James equalized one minute after Maya Letellier’s opener, before Bryn Mortensen, Grace Moore, and Addison White put the icing on the cake of another Blizzard win.
Behind them in third are St Albert Impact who failed to win on Friday – a 0-0 tie with Calgary Rangers pushing them in the opposite direction to silverware. But they quickly made amends with a 2-0 win against Edmonton BTB on Tuesday night to stay within two points of the leaders. Janai Martens scored a brace.
The final fixture on Friday was a 4-0 victory for Edmonton BTB against Calgary Villains. Neither side have much left to play for in 2025, but Samantha Bouchard, Leann Soppo Mbem, Gabrielle Linford, and Makenna Van der Veen ensured BTB began the run-in with a good performance in front of their home fans.
Calgary Rangers then defeated Calgary Villains 3-0 at Webber Athletic Park on Tuesday thanks to a Hailey Slobodian hat-trick. Neither side are in contention for the leading positions at this stage, but their aims will be to end their inaugural seasons on a high.
