Weekly Rewind: two teams score eight

It has been a high-scoring matchweek in L1AB, with two sides scoring eight goals in the Men’s Division as the title fight continues.

A gr-eight Friday

If one team scoring eight goals wasn’t enough, another had to match it. Cavalry U21 began the weekend with an 8-1 win over Callies United. Thomas Stuber opened the scoring, before Ben ZImola and Owen Antoniuk scored braces, and Zario Reyes, Jax Wheeldon, and Michael Harms all scored in Cavalry’s fourth win of 2025.

St Albert Impact took inspiration from Cavalry, beating Calgary Villains 8-3 away from home to move to within one point of top spot. A Noach Lechelt hat-trick was a big part of a victory that piled the pressure on Edmonton BTB at the summit. For the Villains, even scoring three goals was not enough to claim their first point of 2025.

Elsewhere, BTB lost ground in the title race after being beaten 1-0 by Calgary Foothills. Jamie Nicholson gave the away side the lead in the ninth minute, and that was the only goal of the game as the hosts’ lead at the top was reduced to just one point. Behind them, Impact also have a game in hand.

To tie up an entertaining day, Calgary Rangers and Edmonton Scottish played out a 2-2 tie at Webber Athletic Park. The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a Kwasi Oteng-Frimpong brace, but Rilind Idrizi and Yanive Solomon completed the comeback, as both sides moved closer to first place.

Weathering the storm

Calgary Foothills still hold top spot in the Women’s Division, but their game against Edmonton BTB was postponed due to adverse weather on Friday.

Elsewhere, however, St Albert Impact ensured the conditions would not dampen their Friday, beating Calgary Villains 3-1 away from home. The home side took the lead through Isabelle Lachance, but Adalyn Fairweather, Alyx Henderson, and Sariyah Bailey turned the game on its head, as they remain hot on the Foothills’ heels.

Calgary Rangers beat Edmonton Scottish in a 2-1 home win. Brooke Burrows made it 1-0 in the first minute of the game, before Jenna Steacy equalized with 20 minutes to go. The hosts restored their lead, though, with Isabella Dipalma scoring the goal to give the Rangers their third win of 2025.
