Weekly Preview: Crunch Time

There’s a top-two clash coming up in the Men’s Division, and first play third in the Women’s Division.

A crucial contest

Edmonton BTB moved to the summit of the Men’s Division last weekend following their huge 4-0 win against Callies United. They face Calgary Blizzard on Friday in a battle between the top two, as both sides look to prove why they are the title favourites in 2025.

Cavalry U21 can make it two wins in four days if they overcome Calgary Rangers this weekend. The visitors enjoyed a huge 5-1 win against Calgary Villains on Tuesday and could propel themselves into mid-table with another positive result on Friday evening. Their opponents will be no easy task, though, as they sit fourth with four wins so far,

The final Friday match sees Callies United host Edmonton Scottish, as both sides look to claim three points following a winless Tuesday. The home side fell to a 5-0 defeat against Calgary Foothills in mid-week, so they need to bounce back against a side who tied 1-1 last time out and could join the title fight come the end of the weekend.

Saturday sees one match, as St Albert Impact host a Foothills side who are well in the title hunt. The visitors have four wins from their nine games so far, but also four defeats, so they need another victory to put pressure on the likes of BTB and the Blizzard.

First vs third

Although there are two Friday fixtures, the headline match of the weekend is St Albert Impact hosting the Foothills. The latter currently sit top of the standings, but their opponents are just three points behind with two games in hand, so this game is vital. Both sides enjoyed victories in mid-week, with Impact winning 6-1 against the Scottish for their fifth three-point haul this season.

The weekend begins, though, with Calgary Blizzard the home side for their match against Edmonton BTB. The hosts are second at this stage but could go top with a win heading into Saturday’s crunch game. The hope will be to take maximum points and then relax as their title rivals battle it out.

Finally, Callies United will be aiming to put Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat behind them when they host Edmonton Scottish in the evening. Their opponents are carrying a 6-1 defeat into this game, so it represents a good opportunity for the either side to banish their ghosts from midweek.
