Weekly Preview: Unlucky for some
Matchweek Eight of the L1AB season begins on Friday 13, as the battles at the top of each division continues.

A three-horse race
First and second are in action on Friday night in the Men’s Division, as they go into the matchweek level on points.
Calgary Blizzard currently hold top spot in the standings after an unbeaten start, and they face St Albert Impact, a side who sit just outside the top-three. The Blizzard do have a game in hand on Edmonton BTB behind them, so the pressure is off, but they will still be hunting all three points against a tough opponent.
BTB are also in action when they travel to Callies United. Their opponents have three wins and three losses at this stage, so their inconsistent start has put them just outside of the top half. The visitors must claim maximum points if they are to move into top spot, but it will not be an easy task against a side they are yet to play in 2025.
Calgary Villains will be hoping they can avoid their eighth consecutive defeat when they host Edmonton Scottish. The home side are without a point so far, but have an opportunity to claim their first against a Scottish side who have struggled to find consistency so far.
Third-place Calgary Rangers continue their title hunt on Tuesday, and may have some ground to catch up if results don’t go their way on Friday. Their match is one of three in midweek, alongside Foothills facing Callies and Impact hosting Scottish.
Second vs third
St Albert Impact sit three points from top spot in the Women’s Division, but have three games in hand on leaders Calgary Foothills who play on Tuesday. With four wins from four so far, the Impact could continue their perfect start against Calgary Blizzard, who are second.
Calgary Villains host Edmonton Scottish in a bid to move into fourth. For their opponents, they have the aim to move away from the foot of the standings, currently sitting two points from seventh but with three games in hand.
Edmonton BTB are on the road to play against Callies United. The latter have had an inconsistent season so far, with two wins from six, but another victory here could put them into a position to challenge those in the top three. BTB can make it two wins on the bounce after their 2-0 win in Calgary last week.
The Callies are then the opponents for division leaders Foothills on Tuesday, and Impact host Scottish in a week that could see them move onto six wins from six.
