Weekly Rewind: Pressure makes diamonds
With a crucial games at the top of both divisions, Matchweek Eight required some big performances – and they came.

To and fro at the top
St Albert Impact had won four consecutive games in the Women’s Division, but the arrival of Calgary Blizzard stopped that streak when they needed to most.
The Blizzard only needed to avoid defeat to remain ahead of their opponents, but secured 2-1 win on the road. Aislin Phillips opened the scoring within three minutes, before Lauren Lonsberry equalized on the stroke of half-time. Kaleigh Major then struck late to hand the hosts their first loss of 2025.
There was more Calgary success elsewhere when the Villains moved into the top four with a win over Edmonton Scottish. Cheyenne Lehmann scored the only goal of the game in the third minute.
While the Scottish could not claim any points, their Edmonton counterparts in BTB certainly could. They travelled to Callies United and enjoyed a 1-0 win thanks to a Hannah Harper goal in the first half.
Callies United fell to another defeat on Tuesday when they faced Calgary Foothills, who also secured a 1-0 win to go back to the summit of the Women’s Division. They leapfrogged the Blizzard who went top after beating the Impact.
St Albert won big on Tuesday with a 6-1 victory against the Scottish; a Janai Martens hat-trick stealing the show and their fifth win from six matches.
Bringing home the points
It was a Friday of Edmonton success in the Men’s Division, as both the Scottish and BTB won on the road.
The Scottish began the day’s action, hunting another important win against the bottom-side Calgary Villains. In a five-star performance, Tyson Blight, Habib Assem, Yanive Solomon, Jivan Aulakh, and Rilind Idrizi gave the visitors a 5-0 win to take them fourth.
They then secured a point in St Albert on Tuesday night. Rilind Idrizi’s first-half goal being cancelled out by Elshafi Ishaq’s late equalizer for the Impact. The point leaves the reigning champions in fifth, five points from top.
BTB are now the team to chase as they went into first place following a 4-0 victory against Callies. Two goals from Ethan Darpoh helped them towards their fifth win of the season, and ensured they made the most of the Blizzard’s postponed match in St Albert.
Behind BTB and the Blizzard are Calgary Foothills, who are in the ascendency following two back-to-back wins in which they have scored a total of 11 goals. Their 5-0 win on Tuesday against Callies United moved them onto 13 points and within four of the leaders.
There was also a big win for Cavalry U21s on Tuesday as they beat Calgary Villains 5-1, with young star Owen Antoniuk scoring a hat-trick.
